MURFREESBORO Ten Rutherford County prep football standouts will get an opportunity to play one more game after being chosen for the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association’s Toyota East vs. West All-Star Classic scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium.
The local list is headlined by Tennessee commitments Jauan Jennings of Blackman and Kyle Oliver of Oakland.
All of the local players will play on the East team, which is being coached by Siegel’s Greg Wyant.
“We are fortunate that our league has a lot of players in it,” Wyant said. “That says a lot about District 7-AAA.”
Jennings, a quarterback, recently received the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Class AAA Back of the Year award. The 6-foot-4, 186-pound quarterback completed 125-of-219 passes for 2,155 yards with 22 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed 127 times for 883 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.
Oliver caught 40 passes for 574 yards as a tight end this past season. Oliver is one of four chosen from the fourth-ranked Patriots for the East squad.
He is joined by defensive backs Tyler Black and George Gbesee and linebacker Kevin Prather.
Black, a Tennessee State commitment, had 42 tackles and three interceptions and recovered a fumble. Gbesee, a Wofford commitment, had 42 tackles and three interceptions and recovered three fumbles. Prather recorded 119 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Blackman had two others chosen for the game in running back Charlie Davidson and center Micah Cale. Davidson rushed for 1,652 yards on 200 carries and scored 21 touchdowns.
Siegel placed two on the team in linebacker Andrew Knox and defensive end Luke Hillis.
La Vergne’s Quin Jernighan was chosen to play receiver. Jernighan, a Western Kentucky commitment, had 33 catches for 578 yards with six TDs.
Cannon County’s A.J. Daniel was also chosen for the East team as a linebacker.
The East team has includes Tennessee commitment Jocquez Bruce, a wide receiver from South Doyle. Notre Dame receiver Kareem Orr, a Louisville commitment, also is on the team.
The East offensive line includes Coalfield’s Zach Stewart, a two-time Mr. Football winner and Tennessee commitment, and Knoxville Fulton’s Jonathan Roth, a MTSU commitment.
Three Rutherford County athletes are listed as alternates: Oakland defensive back Josh Cunningham, Smyrna defensive back D.J. Williams and Siegel linebacker Stephen Major.
The West roster also has its share of standout players.
The West roster includes Hillsboro athlete Vincent Perry, a Tennessee commitment, Ole Miss commitments Cameron Ordway of Giles County and Ugo Amadi of Overton, Wake Forest commitment Phillip Haynes of Manassas and Memphis commitment Cedric Miller of Southwind.
Wyant said the East roster could have been even filled with more talent but two SEC commits from the Chattanooga area chose not to participate.
“It should be a lot of fun,” Wyant said. “It’s probably for both rosters full of more Division I commits that I’ve seen a game like this in a long time.
“There is going to be a lot of talent on the field. It’s going to be fun to coach these guys.”
