MURFREESBORO – Three Murfreesboro volleyball standout players received all-state status by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association recently.
The trio — Blackman senior middle hitter Danielle Ged and Siegel senior setter Jill Morgan and senior outside teammate Tori Simmons — helped lead their respective teams to the TSSAA Class AAA state tournament.
Siegel leads All-Area volleyball team
Ged, a Lincoln Memorial signee, had 470 kills, 172 blocks and 320 digs during the season. Ged was also named to the All-District 7-AAA team as well as the All-Region 4-AAA team. She helped Blackman reach the state tournament for the first time in 11 years.
Morgan dished out 1,569 assists and had 342 digs this past season. She was an All-District 7-AAA member and was the Region 4-AAA tournament MVP.
County places seven on TSWA all-state soccer team
Simmons, who also was a three-year starter, was the two-time District 7-AAA MVP. She was also on the all-Region 4-AAA team. Simmons, a Belmont signee, had 558 kills this past season and had 587 digs.
County places 11 on TSWA All-State football team
Morgan and Simmons helped guide Siegel to a 49-4 record and third-place finish in the Class AAA state tournament. The Lady Stars were ranked in the top-15 nationally by MaxPreps during the season. Their lone losses were to state champion Brentwood and state runner-up Farragut. Siegel was also the lone team to beat Brentwood during the season.
