Oakland's Kevin Prather commits to UT-Martin

MURFREESBORO – Oakland senior Kevin Prather, a two-time District 7-AAA Defensive MVP, announced on Twitter on Sunday that he has committed to UT-Martin.

Prather, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker, was the named the league’s top defensive players by 7-AAA coaches the past two seasons.

He finished with 119 tackles this past season with 25 for loss. He also had two sacks, two interceptions and forced two fumbles for the Patriots. That came after logging 125 tackles, forced six fumbles and recovered three his junior season.

Prather also had offers from Appalachian State, Austin Peay, MTSU and Western Kentucky. He could not be reached for comment.

UT-Martin, an FCS school, finished 6-6 this past season and 5-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

He is the 20th Rutherford County football player to announce his commitment.

Prather is the eighth football player to make a college commitment off of this past season’s 12-2 team that lost to Class 6A state champion Maryville in the TSSAA state semifinals.

Of the eight, six of the Patriots are from the defensive side of the ball.

Commitments are nonbinding for the school and athlete. He cannot sign until Wednesday.
