Oakland High track and field athletes Chris Stokes and Nathan Mack were named all-state on Saturday after placing in the Tennessee high school indoor track and field state meet at East Tennessee State University.
Stokes won the 60-meter dash in 6.99 seconds and was fourth in the 200 in 23.82. Mack was fifth in the 800, finishing in 2:01.80
La Vergne’s Leonel Perez was 11th in the 1-mile run in 4:33.24.
Oakland coach Al Evans said this was the return of the state indoor meet after it not being held for 40 years.
Watson interim: Blackman assistant football coach David Watson has been named the interim coach while the school conducts a search to replace Philip Shadowens, who resigned last month.
Watson was the defensive coordinator this past season. He is a former head coach at Siegel High.
Offered: La Vergne sophomore Princeton Fant received six college football offers during the month of February. Fant has received offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky.
Fant, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete, caught 14 passes for 326 yards this past season. He also had nine carries for 141 yards with five total touchdowns.
• Smyrna junior Ikenna Okeke has picked up seven new college offers in recent weeks.
Okeke (6-2, 200) received offers from Kansas, MTSU, Northwestern, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest this past month.
Okeke had five interceptions this past season at safety for the Bulldogs.
• Oakland sophomore safety JaCoby Stevens recently picked up an offer from Vanderbilt.
Stevens (6-2, 200) had 50 tackles, three interceptions, recovered two fumbles and blocked a field goal this past season.
• Riverdale sophomore defensive back Gentry Bonds has received his first two offers.
Bonds (6-1, 170) has received offers from Kentucky and Vanderbilt. He had 45 tackles and four interceptions this past season.
