
MURFREESBORO – Parker Bates went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead MTCS to an 8-4 win over Fayetteville Friday night at Joe Baron Field to open the District 9-A tournament.
The win sets up a game with rival Eagleville at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Forrest in the second round of the postseason.
Justin Winn, a Moorehead State football signee, went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Perry Patton was 2-for-2 with a run scored a RBI. Brayden Melton and Taylor Garner also had an RBI apiece for MTCS (15-13).
MTCS and Eagleville split in the regular season.
Peyton Buckner collected the win, giving up four runs in six innings. Buckner (4-4) struck out eight and walked three in the victory.
Eagleville 11, Moore Co. 3: Ty Ellis, Curt Jones and Ben Williams all drove in two runs for the Eagles in the rout to open the postseason. Eagleville scored its 11 runs on just five hits. But Moore County booted the ball around, committing seven errors in the loss.
Christian Hill got the win, striking out five and giving up three runs in six innings pitched.
He gave up six hits, including a home run. He walked two.
District 8-AA
Central Magnet 8, Macon Co. 0: Chris Johnson threw a complete-game shutout to open Central Magnet’s postseason run. Johnson struck out eight and gave up just two hits in the win for Central Magnet (27-5), which plays Cannon County at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Wes Duffield went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run. Teammate Darek Sargent was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Tigers, who entered the postseason as the District 8-AA regular-season champions.
District 7-AAA
La Vergne 4, Stewarts Creek 1: Morehead State signee Jake Hammon went 2-for-3 for the Wolverines (15-15) at the plate. Tyler Jones went 2-for-3 and Kalani Porto was 2-for-2.
Pitcher Chris Johnson threw a complete game, giving up one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked one. He also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The loss ends Stewarts Creek’s season with a 10-18 record.
La Vergne plays Siegel (19-11) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverdale in an elimination game.
