La Vergne senior Aliah Cook won both the long jump and high jump Monday in a Class AAA subsectional at Riverdale to qualify for both events in next week’s sectional at Rhea County.
Cook was the lone Rutherford County double winner in the field events portion of the subsectional.
Cook won the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-7 and the triple jump in 37-8 ½.
County athletes claimed 30 spots in next week’s sectional. The top four finishers in the subsectional qualify for the sectional.
The girls and boys running events will be held Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
Blackman thrower Kalea Barnett won the shot put (36-6) and finished third in the discus (85-8) to qualify for two events. Riverdale’s Alexis Fortson won the discus (98-9) and finished third in the shot put (30-10).
Blackman’s Gabrielle Napper won the high jump (5-0). Siegel’s Meg Tomayko won the pole vault (10-0).
On the boys side, Riverdale’s Ty Chesterfield finished third in the high jump (5-10) and fourth in the long jump (19-5) to qualify for the sectional in two events.
Dexter Hurd was second in both the shot put (36-1 ½) and discus (131-10 ½).
Oakland’s Troy Valdary won the high jump (6-4). Oakland’s Kyle Oliver, a Tennessee football signee, won the discus (134-10).
